Doordash + Pear

We met co-founders Tony, Stanley, and Andy at a demo day. Afterward, we spent an afternoon with the founders at a Palo Alto apartment that served as DoorDash HQ to talk through the team’s vision. Before we officially invested in the company, we introduced them to a UX designer in their network, which was a top hiring priority for them at the time.  Mar walked up and down University Avenue in Palo Alto with the founding team, meeting with restaurant owners to understand their needs and to assess the market opportunity for DoorDash. Convinced that the DoorDash team had a solution to the problem of meal delivery, we invested in DoorDash’s seed round and continued to support them with product consulting and mentorship. We continued investing in subsequent rounds, sticking through the tough times of a down round. Along the way, the Pear team introduced DoorDash’s CEO, Tony Xu, to Softbank who led a $500M round for DoorDash.  DoorDash completed an IPO and is now a public company. We are proud to have already invested in three companies started by DoorDash alumni!
