Today, DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH) is one of the world’s leading local commerce platforms, operating in 40+ countries and reaching communities from São Paulo to Helsinki. But in 2013, it was just three founders in a Palo Alto apartment.

We first met Tony, Stanley, and Andy at a demo day, and spent the afternoon at that apartment—DoorDash HQ at the time— listening to them talk through their vision for local delivery.

Before we’d officially invested, we had already made our first introduction: a UX designer, their most urgent hire at the time.Mar then walked University Avenue with the founding team, stopping in at restaurants to hear how owners thought about delivery. What she found convinced her. We led their seed round shortly after.

Over the next few years, we continued to invest in in subsequent rounds, doubling down on our conviction in the team and helping them navigate a a down round. We later introduced Tony to SoftBank, who led a $500M round for DoorDash.

DoorDash went public in 2020. Since then, we’ve backed several companies founded by DoorDash alumni.
