Pearl Street + Pear

David and Hui, the founders of Pearl Street Technologies, are electrical engineering PhDs from Carnegie Mellon with deep expertise in designing and optimizing energy systems. David first crossed paths with Pear while working as a senior scientist and one of the earliest hires at our portfolio company, Aurora Solar.

We invested in Pearl Street’s seed round in 2022 and have been actively involved in their growth ever since. Mar and Keith serve as board observers, and our talent team has worked closely with them to refine their recruiting process—implementing a new applicant tracking system, streamlining technical interviews, and navigating competitive hiring markets to bring on critical team members, including a VP of Engineering.

Our collaboration extended to product development as well. Together with the Pearl Street team, we supported the launch of their developer-facing platform, Interconnect, ensuring it met the needs of renewable energy developers.

Today, Pearl Street is setting new standards in the energy industry. Their grid study software, SUGAR, and developer-focused platform, Interconnect, are recognized as industry-leading tools that streamline the design and planning of renewable energy projects. The company is now rapidly expanding to new geographies, helping eliminate interconnection bottlenecks and accelerating the transition to renewable energy.
